Deer galore

This is my big boy, Tank.

He's the only offspring of Paluk here at ByDog.

He's big. He's sweet. He's goofy. But he's not smart.

Many times when I put him in lead he's distractible.  He'll run the team over a bank if he wants to smell things. But he's fast and has a lot of drive.

However on the select days he puts his mind to it, he's an amazing leader! Today was one of those days.

It was warm, borderline too warm but since Cobey will be gone for 5 days starting tomorrow (which means I won't be able to run dogs) I needed to get them out.

Isis and Tank took the lead position. We got an early start after getting home from work.  Haven't done much running from home in the daylight lately, so that was a nice treat!

Beautiful view always!  Love running in the daylight!

Digging in!

Go Dogs Go!

Come down off the canal.

Just can't beat that view!

Do you see them?! In that field? A big deer herd.  Hmmm...

Taking a break at the turn around. Deer herd, dead ahead!

Getting a drink before heading home.

This is how amazing Tank was today!  Good boy!

Happy (Belated) Birthday to Blue

It was Blue's 14th* birthday yesterday.  While we celebrated it with her yesterday I forgot to post Happy Birthday Blue!

She also did get a round of "Happy Birthday to You!"

Blue acting out "The Princess and the Pea" for us.  She was quite content to be the princess of the dog bed pile.
*Blue is a rescue and this is her estimated age and arbitrarily given birthday. We have a hard time believing she could be 14 because she's in such good health (but entirely possible as some huskies live to 17). We do know she is old (in dog years) though, as she has slowed down A LOT in the last few years and is content with doing nothing but sleep and be grouchy.

Needed

It was cold tonight!  Frozen fingers cold...like I haven't felt in many weeks.  Strangely it felt good.  So did the run tonight.  After weeks of feeling like a failure, tonights run started to make up for it.  The dogs did great, the run was long (10 miles) and cold. I didn't want to go initially, I just felt like curling up into a ball and having a pity party.  But the dogs needed it and apparently I needed it too.

Thanks guys!

Isis ROCKED it in lead. She doesn't run lead much but she just might be doing more of it next season.

The one and only Tensaw!

The slightly green glowing dog is Whip ;)

Jig and Isis my superstar leaders of the night!

Kind of a creepy photo...Isis and Jig back at home!

Hopefully they all sleep hard tonight!

Big Day for the Saw Litter

On Friday the Saw Litter had an adventurous day. It was time for their yearly shots and rabies boost so Whip, Jig, Buck, Buzz and I went to visit Valley Pet Clinic, our trusty vets. We really like them and I'm sure they really like us...since we are constantly visiting them; we keep their lights on.

They all did great, though they were very nervous. Buck was the biggest of the three tipping the scale at 52 lbs. He's one of our bigger dogs, smaller only to Tank and Flier (though heavier than Flier thanks to his large melon).

Then we stopped by the dog park.  I let Buck and Buzz run around. Jig is in heat and I don't want an accidental litter by any park visitors, so her and Whip stayed in the truck. The boys sure had fun free running.....

And sniffing.....

....and sniffing....

...wandering....to do more sniffing...

...oh and definitely, lots of peeing....

...more sniffing and peeing....

This place is fun!

Then when we got home, they all got a turn inside. We're continuing to work on inside manors with these guys. During the business of winter we haven't kept this up as well. They've been itching to come inside.  So before I deep cleansed the house, everyone came in and hung out with me.

Buzz was first and also by far the best.  He responded well to where he was and was not allowed to be and, after the first 5 minutes, he stopped needing to run around full tilt checking everything out.  He soon settled down and just followed me about.

I missed getting a picture of Buck inside.  But it would have been the same shot.  A happy dog with a very blurry tail (they whip those things around like fly fisherman).
